tips on washing up using ONE BOWL of hot soapy water
1. DON’T STACK
When clearing the table resist the urge to stack dirty plates or serving bowls. It may be the most efficient way of clearing the table but it spreads the dirt to clean surface areas.
2. SCRAPE THOROUGHLY / DON’T SWILL
Scrape and scratch off as much leftover food from the plates as possible, including blobs of sauce. You don’t want stray spaghetti or crusty ketchup tainting your hot and soapy suds. Use a paper towel to be more thorough.
3. ALL ABOUT THE ORDER
Start washing the least soiled items like glasses and mugs. Move on to cutlery and well scraped plates. Leave heavily soiled and greasy pans till last.
Save the rankest pot or greasiest pan till last. Remove the washing up bowl and its contents from the sink. Replace with the rank pan. Tip the dirty grey contents of your washing up bowl into the pan to soak for a while. Return with a scourer and some elbow grease.
5. OILY FRYING PANS
Clean frying pans immediately after use. Squirt some washing up liquid directly into hot oily pan. Allow to simmer for a few seconds and then add a splash of boiling water from the kettle. Wipe clean with a brush or cloth. Rinse with a another splash of water.
